Ceramic and mosaic tiles have been part of my life for over two decades, and In recent years, I’ve been learning and practicing the process of producing cement tiles in the factory of Mosaics Marti in Manresa, Catalunya.

While producing tiles for architectural projects, I’ve been searching for my own unique way of combining mosaics and hydraulic tiles.

Adding mosaic pieces into tiles gives me more freedom of manipulating patterns and creating unique imagery.  The visual relationships between the original tiles and the pieces of the mosaic that surrounding it is a story about the abstraction of a shape.

The work “La Mariposa de Amaya” shows the metamorphosis of a flower turning into a butterfly. The pattern consists of movement - using one mold. By changing the combination of colors and using the “trencadis hydrauic tile” I was able to manipulate the forms until the butterfly is flying freely outside the dimension.
